3rd Party Verification
Independent verification of your structured cabling system should be considered, if you are soliciting bids and have specified materials or products that are to be supplied by the contractor. How sure are you that the components, level of workmanship and testing parameters are those that you have specified? The independent verification will challenge the installation contractor to perform at the desired level, as he is aware that someone knowledgeable is checking his work.
Physical Inspection, will confirm the installation methods and standards being used by an installation contractor. The specification should include compliance with ANSI/TIA-568C.0, NECA/BICSI 568-2006 and BICSI Best Practices.
- Visual inspection of the materials and practices with adherence to the design during the installation that performance tests, (cable analyzers) do not always uncover.
- Performance testing is verification that the installed structured cabling system, UTP or Fiber, meet the manufacturers' specifications, with an approved testing regime.
- Certification of the installed system should include review by a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) for compliance with:
1.) ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.2 for Category 6/6A structured cabling systems.
2.) ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.1 for Category 3/5e structured cabling systems.
3.) ANSI/TIA/EIA-526-14-B-2010 Fiber Testing Standard.
This may be a two part inspection, with the first being conducted during the initial phases of the installation as an early detection of items that may be fixed. The second being a comprehensive visual verification and documentation includes performance testing.
